Classical composer Richard Wagner’s piece Bridal Chorus from his opera Lohengrin (often called ” Here Comes The Bride”) is the world’s most popular processional piece. It is believed that the song was first performed at the wedding of Princess Victoria Adelaide Mary Louise, Queen Victoria‘s oldest child, in 1858.
Music enthusiasts also note Wagner as a significant influence on the genre of Heavy Metal. I’m just giving you that little bit of a wedge into the argument about whether you should propose a “heavier” playlist for your ceremony than what traditionalists in your planning circle might have hoped for.
But who says your wedding music can’t have a bit of a bite? If that’s your vibe, why not share your personality through the music that takes you down the aisle? Can you imagine it? Your authorised marriage celebrant is standing at the front. The nicely dressed guests wait for Pachabel’s Canon to enter the well-wishers and compliment the bridal procession. But then…
Before we go on, let’s get the obligatory disclaimer out of the way. If you’re a purist, you may argue whether some of these songs fit the “Metal” mould. We’ve put together a list that covers what would have been classified as fitting into the genre in the early years, and so is a balanced mix of intense, virtuosic heaviness and more moderate rock ballads from yesteryear – when if you had long hair and a guitar, you were “Metal”. Hanson excluded.
